April | 2009 | Holistic Pet Food Blog

I don’t very often write about myself but I have to tell you, I’m really excited to be attending the Trilogy HealthyPetNet convention in Tampa, Florida, this weekend.   I’ve been an independent rep for over three years but this is the first chance I’ve had to actually attend the convention.

My goal for this blog is to be as factual and objective as possible.   It’s about educating you on the many healthy pet foods out there, telling you about the good and bad ingredients, keeping you up to date on the pet food recalls.

But as you know, outside of my very busy day job (I am an IT project manager in “real life”), I do animal rescue.  That’s how I discovered HealthyPetNet.

I’m excited about this convention  for a couple of reasons.  First, I get to finally meet Judy Bishop, who is the amazing person who has shepherded and mentored me in this business.  She is a former dog groomer who became one of the top reps in the company.  She has become a close personal friend and the whole trip will be worth it to meet her.

Second, on Friday evening, I am meeting with several others in my group to have dinner with Dr. Jane Bicks.  She is the holistic veterinarian who formulates the pet foods and supplements for HealthyPetNet.  I’ve gained so much from the education we get from her on weekly veterinary conference calls, can’t wait to meet her in person.

Saturday and Monday are a half-day of general sessions, while Sunday is a full day of workshops, plus an evening reception and dinner.

It will be a fairly small convention, I think I heard maybe about 60-75 reps?  So it will be individual and personal, something you don’t get very much of these days.

We are going to learn more about the products but also about the business.  As you know, HealthyPetNet is one of the top 15 network marketing companies out there.  They’ve been around for 10 years and have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau in Southeast Florida, no small feat.    They have never had a pet food recall, again, no small feat.    So I’m quite proud of my association with this company.

This has been a really fun business for me.  Of all the home-based things people have wanted to drag me into, THIS one WORKS for me.  I can do exactly what I want with it.  I am a BUSY lady.  I work long hours and in my spare time, I train for marathons and raise money to fight blood cancers.  I also have a home and garden and many rescue kitties to take care of.  PLUS I’m the organist for my church and am active in volunteer work.

I’m passionate about my pets and their health and nutrition, you can see that written all over my lifestyle.    So I’m really excited to sort of land right in the lap of HealthyPetNet, enjoy meeting some really great and great-hearted people, and get a bit of a vacation out of it, to boot.

Watch for some fun articles that I’m sure will come out of the convention.

The Positive Impact of Omega-3 fatty Acids

The primary positive benefits of fish oil omega 3 fatty acids are centered on the heart, joints, brain, and immune system. It is known to help manage heart diseases, high cholesterol, depression, anxiety, immune system, inflammation, arthritis, diabetes, cancer and other common health problems. Most of the health benefits attributed to fish oil are brought by its omega 3 as well as its essential fatty acid content; the docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). As the scientific community unveils more of the significant health benefits that fish oil brings, the demand for fish oil supplements have dramatically increased.

The following are some of the possible fish oil benefits that you should know:

• Omega 3 mainly constitutes fish oil. It may be very effective in reducing the risk of heart diseases as it lowers the LDL cholesterol levels, which is also known as bad cholesterol, while increasing HDL levels or the good cholesterol. In this light, it prevents triglycerides from accumulating and causing heart problems.

• Regular fish oil consumption may help strengthen the immune system and lessens the incidence of cold, cough, and flu.

• The EPA in omega 3 fatty acids may promote positive inflammatory responses. It may regulate the inflammation cycle, which brings relief to arthritis, prostitis, cystitis, and other painful conditions.
• It may help reduce the risk of developing problems such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, thanks to its high EPA and DHA essential acid content.

• It may help promotes fertility by increasing the sperms’ survival against the naturally occurring lipid peroxidative substances in the genital tract- a common hindrance to women’s ability to conceive.

• Fish oil may provide nourishment to the hair follicles, promoting good luster of the hair and strengthened hair roots preventing hair fall.
• May reduce risk for cancer. The omega 3 in fish oil may possibly target the three main forms of cancer; the breast, colon and prostate cancer. It may enable healthy cells to resist alteration, which often leads to the formation of cancerous mass. Hence, it may inhibit unwanted cellular growth to promote apoptosis or the death of cancer cells. In addition, it may help control the progress of the growth of cancer cells.

Fish oil supplements

The significant health benefits of fish oil emphasize the need for fish oil supplements, which will ensure sufficient daily intake of essential fatty acids. Thanks to the existence of patented production and purification technologies, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical companies have developed many ways of removing the pollutants that are commonly present among fish oil sources.
It is always advisable to consult your doctor before you start your fish oil supplements.

Caring for your Pet Dog

Filed under: Uncategorized — enux @ 8:11 pm

When it comes to taking care of your pet dog, it is important to make sure that you are paying attention to the dog food you give him/her. All dog food is not created equal. Instead of just going with the cheapest or the first brand you see on the store shelves, it is important to make sure that you are getting the best for the dog. There are a lot of dog foods out there that are not as good for pets as they could or should be. It is vital to make sure that the treats and supplements that are being bought for the dog are just as healthy.

The first thing that you will want to take into consideration when looking at buying dog food is the list of ingredients. If corn, wheat, or soy is the first ingredient listed then you will want to go with a different kind of food or a different brand altogether. This is because the first ingredient that is listed is the ingredient that makes up most of the food. Corn, wheat, and soy should never be the main ingredient in your dog’s diet. The best thing to be listed as the main ingredient in the dog food is that of protein from an animal source. A healthier choice is, chicken meal as to “poultry” meal

You will need to avoid things such as artificial flavors or preservatives. Preservatives such as BHA, BHT, and Ethoxyquin have been proven to be extremely harmful to dogs when used over a long period of time. When preservatives are needed, natural sources such as vitamins are the best things to use. Even though this means that you will have to spend a little extra time in the research of your dog food label, it is well worth it for the health of your dog.

Also make sure that you know just how exactly the food is manufactured, where it is manufactured, and whether or not the company has high quality control procedures. Just as making sure the ingredients are proper for your dog, it is important to make sure that where the food is being made and how it is being made is beneficial to your dog as well. You will also want to make sure that you are double-checking to make sure whether there have ever been any recalls on the brand of dog food that you are looking at in order to make sure that your pet is completely safe.

Since it is important to make sure that you are caring for your dog just as you would a child, you want to make sure that you are feeding it the best food possible. The healthier the food is that the dog is eating the better its life will be. A long healthy life is the result of a well balanced diet and exercise routine. The immune system of a dog needs the right food in order to fight off free radicals that will come naturally with age. And since your dog ages much faster than a human.

Vehicle Crash On Fremont Bridge Fatal

Filed under: Auto Accident — enux @ 11:51 pm

Good to be back to San Jose from Orange County and Los Angeles where I can be of service, here is some auto accident news…According to the Seattle Police a head on collision on the Fremont Bridge critically injured one woman that later died from the injuries.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has released the identity of the 42 year old Seattle woman as Christine Duffy.

Duffy sustained critical injuries in the collision that occurred at approximately 10:54 a.m. according to a spokeswoman for the Seattle Fire Department. The spokeswoman stated medics preformed CPR prior to transporting her to Harborview Medical Center, where Duffy later died. By the way if you require a top flank Orange County car accident attorney and LA wrongful death lawyer who also can help you to recoup auto repair service costs then look no further.

The accident occurred according to Seattle Police when Duffy was traveling in the northbound lanes crossing the Freemont Bridge when she crossed the double yellow line and collided with a mini van and then had a head on collision with a cargo van.

The drivers of the other vehicles were a 49 year old man and a 28 year old woman who both sustained minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals where they were treated for their injuries.
For his part, someone I know who runs a great San Jose Auto Service said that these accidents are quite commo,
san jose auto repair
Saratoga Shell
1698 South De Anza Boulevard, San Jose, CA 95129
(408) 252-0862 at least at his particular San Jose auto service center. While police are still investigating the accident, reportedly a friend of Duffy’s claimed she may have suffered a seizure that caused the stay at home wife and mother of twins to lose control of the vehicle.

HealthyPetNet Convention 2009

Teresa with Trilogy founder, Dennis Berardi

Teresa with Trilogy founder, Dennis Berardi

Would it be okay if I go a little off-topic and tell you about a pet products convention that I attended this weekend?

The Trilogy International HealthyPetNet Convention was held in Tampa, Florida May 2 – 4, 2009.   As an independent rep since January 2006, this was the first year that I was able to attend.  It was an outstanding convention and I will never miss another one.

It was filled with the “basics” of key Trilogy “people, pets, and planet” products, including the HealthyPetNet line and the SeaLogix Fish Oil.  Highlights for me came from HealthyPetNet product formulator, Dr. Jane Bicks, DVM, and from a scientist with Biodroga, the Canadian company that manufactures the SeaLogix products.

I must tell you, there was no hoopla.  Dr. Jane is 100% focused on natural products that improve our pets’ health.  She is a veterinarian;  money and bottom line are not at all her concern and it was clearly evident.  As she said many times, “The animal comes first”.  She gave presentations on the Top Three Pet Health Concerns, Answering Common Product Questions, and product info, in general.

I have used holistic pet foods for ten years and HealthyPetNet for three years.  There is no doubt in my mind that this is the finest natural pet product out there.  You can see it in your pet’s health and skin and coat.

Stay tuned!  We were all very excited to learn that Dr. Jane is working on a natural flea and tick remedy.  Hopefully, it will be out later this year.

Biodroga gave a very dry technical lecture undoubtedly meant for the medical community.  Nevertheless, as an ardent fish oil user, I was fascinated and took copious notes.  Watch for upcoming articles devoted to fish oil.

Prior to this lecture, I never fully understood the nature of fish oil contamination and product quality and if I found one product too expensive, I would pick another.  It’s not hard to find $ 5 bottles at the grocery store.  Never again!  From this time on, I will only take an IFOS 5-star!!  SeaLogix is my preferred brand and I will just make sure never to run out because it is far less expensive, per 1,000 mg, than any of the other 5-stars.

The take-home message of the Biodroga lecture is QUALITY COUNTS.  If you are buying anything less than an International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS) rating of FIVE, you are essentially buying REJECTS of the high quality products.

Trilogy International is, like many of the holistic pet food companies, fairly small.  Its company officers are intelligent and real, not at all snobbish.  They remembered our names as we passed them in the hallways and on several occasions, sat to dinner with us.  After hearing their presentations, it’s clear that they know their stuff.

This convention brought home a point to me that this company only wants to bring the best, the safest, products to market.  I am a huge fan of all of the pet products and the pet-safe floor wash and SeaLogix fish oil, but I learned enough that I want their other products, as well.  I want the very highest quality and the very safest products.

If you have an interest in earning income as an independent rep, write to me via the Contact Us tab on my website.  Trilogy has a BBB rating of A+ and are the only “at home” business where I’ve actually been able to make money.  It’s a natural among pet people and pet professionals.  I love to show people how to do this!

Here are some photos from the convention…
